MLIS has been finding medical experts for attorneys for nearly 20 years. We have contacts with most of the university medical centers in this country. We are widely known for honesty and for prompt payment. Perhaps most important, when CEO Laurence R. Dry, M.D., J.D., calls a doctor, the doctor is likely to talk to Dr. Dry because of his medical stature. Often, doctors won't answer a call from an attorney.
We can't disclose details about our proprietary expert locator process, but we can tell you some things:
- We pick experts, they don't pick us. We choose doctors who are qualified to serve on your case based upon the case's needs.
- We consider any board-certified physician with great credentials a potential expert. Usually any expert we assign to your case will be associated with a major university medical center. All experts are trained in the United States and are board-certified. We make sure that your expert does not have an accent foreign to your location.
- We start our search by examining physicians in a state contiguous to yours. Rarely will an expert come from beyond your own geographic area and those rare instances will be because your case requires experts in very sparsely populated specialties where our choices are severely limited.
- We don't choose experts from a list of volunteers, and we don't have experts under contract to us. We believe that when experts are under contract to a "service," that relationship can become the focus of the expert's testimony and can damage a case.
- We investigate potential experts and assure ourselves that they are qualified to serve you. Nearly all of our experts have university medical center affiliations, which markedly decreases the likelihood that the expert has a bad reputation, a drug problem, had his license suspended, lost his credentials to practice at a hospital, wasn't board certified, etc.
- We check to see how many times an expert has reviewed cases and/or testified. We prefer that your expert will have a little experience at testifying, preferably for both the defense and the plaintiff, but we disqualify any expert who has had such wide exposure that he will be easy to impeach.

 Bottom line: We pick experts for your cases as we would for ours! Ask any defense attorney on the other side of one of our cases if we use good experts.
